So we all know turmeric reduces inflammation, but did you know that it can also help reduce pain, supports the immune system, and helps support the digestive health? Yes😊! And, turmeric is super easy to find and won’t break the bank.
You can add turmeric to a smoothie, add it to freshly squeezed juice, to stews, add to tea or made into a superfood turmeric milk drink using coconut milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, honey, and black pepper. Sip on this to reduce inflammation and support overall health. Or like me, l recently started having turmeric shots combined with pineapple, ginger and honey- a heathy combination😉. Here are 10 ways to boost your diet with turmeric from Mayo Clinic:
1. Make it a turmeric chai latte
Also called "golden milk," this warm drink is often made with all different types of milk such as cow, almond or coconut. Start with a cup of milk, and add 1/2 teaspoons each of turmeric powder and honey, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of ginger. Mix together and heat till hot — but be sure not to boil.
2. Add it to a smoothie
A 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric pairs well with tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple and banana.
3. Make a simple curry
Sautee veggies, then add up to a tablespoon of curry. Add vegetable stock or coconut milk and any other spices to taste — then stir and simmer.
4. Sprinkle it into scrambled eggs
Add it to your cooking oil just before pouring in the eggs.
5. Make turmeric tea
Simmer 1/4 teaspoon of dried turmeric for a single cup of tea. Add a pinch of pepper plus lemon or honey to taste. If you have fresh turmeric, peel it, then bring it to a boil and let simmer.
6. Add a pinch to your pancakes
Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and cardamom combine well with turmeric to brighten up everyday pancakes or waffles.
7. Toss it with roasted veggies
Too much turmeric can take on a bitter flavor. Experiment to find the amount that works for you.
8. Sautee it with cooked greens
Mince some garlic cloves and fresh peeled turmeric. (Dried works fine, too). Sautee the garlic and turmeric in olive oil, then add chopped kale, spinach or chard and cook until just wilted.
9. Stir it into soup
Turmeric can boost the nutrition in a range of soups from chili to chicken noodle. Sprinkle it straight into your bowl to experiment with what you like (and not ruin the pot if you decide the combo isn't for you).
10. Use it to spice up plain rice
Try a teaspoon of turmeric, plus a teaspoon of butter or olive oil to the pot with a cup of rice.
